Meryl has received 16 Academy Award nominations, although she only won two. She also was nominated for 25 Golden Globes, she won seven of those. That is more nominations than any other actor in the history of acting in either award! Pretty impressive I thought.
She has won two Emmy Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Cannes Film Festival award, four New York Film Critics Circle Awards, five Grammy Award nominations, a BAFTA award, an Australian Film Institute Award and a Tony Award nomination. She was awarded the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Meryl Streep is widely regarded as one of the most talented and respected movie actors in her generation and now.
Meryl Streep was born in Summit New Jersey but grew up in Benardsville. Her mother Mary Wolf (née Wilkinson)a commercial artist and former art editor, and Harry William Streep Jr. her Father was a pharmaceutical executive. She has two brothers, Dana and Harry.
Meryl and her family is German,Swiss and English. She was raised to be Presbyterian. She was asked though if religion plays a part in her life now during an interview in 2009, Meryl replied, "I follow no doctrine. I don't belong to a church or a temple or a synagogue or an ashram."
Meryl was in a relationship with actor John Cazale until his death in March of 1978. She then married sculptor Don Gummer on September 15, 1978. They have four children Louisa Jacobson Gummer, Grace Jane, Henry Wolfe, and Mamie Gummer. Grace and Mamie are now actresses.
